Monday, November 24, 2008

Well today is a total loss ,because it is raining and did not get the lumber delivered today. So that's all done here is a fast and quick FRUIT COBBLER that is real easy to make and very tasty.
Recipe
Fruit Cobbler
1 Stick of real butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 1/2tsp baking power
3/4 cup milk
1 30 oz can of fruit
1 tbs cinnamon
Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Melt the butter in a 9 x 13 pan glass dish. Remove 1/2 cup of the sugar and set aside along with the cinnamon. Also separate the syrup from the fruit. Now mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl. Now stir in the milk and syrup from fruit together. Now put fruit in with butter and then pour over the batter. ( I usually stir the fruit with the batter ) Now sprinkle the rest of the sager and cinnamon on top and bake for 45 min are until the crust is golden brown.
Hope you will enjoy it if you choose to make it.

Heavy Frost on the Ground

Well this morning I woke up to this, it looked like it snowed but it was only a heavy frost. This morning it is 21 degrees here ion So. Alabama and were not use to that much cold. our avg. temp this time of year is in the 40's.

Well just like yesterday it was a flop also. Got up a 4:00am to go fishing and the wind was blowing 20 mph and gusting at 30 mph so that messed up that trip.Any way things will get better.

I think today were going to buy the material to build the boat frame and the material for finishing the boat barn. I hope everybody has a great weekend, will post again on Monday.

Holes Drilled for Boat Barn

Well the holes have been drilled and now were ready to start the building of the boat barn. It's a little late today to start so we will give it a shot tomorrow and in the meantime will study the plans some more so when we start hope every thing will go alright.

Boat Barn

Well today is a little on the cold side. I'm waiting on the man to come and level off the spot where the boat barn is going to be. So while I have been waiting for him to come I made a big pot of Chile. When I make Chile I always make plenty to freeze. I got into the habit of doing it when the two girls were at home because they could eat it 24/7. I going to shear my Chile Recipe with you.

Chile

5 lbs Hamburger meat

3 pints Tomato's in there juice

2 ea Med. Onion chopped fine

2 cloves Garlic smashed

1 TB SP Sweet Basil

4 TB SP Chile powder

1 TB SP red pepper

Salt to taste

2 TB cocoa

Cooking Directions

In a big skillet brown the meat . In a big pot (not aluminum) put 1/2 cooking oil and the onion's and garlic and saute it. Now add the tomato's in there juice and bring to a boil , now turn heat down and put all the other items in and simmer two hours and stir.

I hope you will enjoy this Chile if you choose to make it. Well while I'm waiting on the man to come I will be studying my plans some more.

The Boat of Choice

In the previous post I said I choose the Glen-L plans and this is why. I was looking for something that was lite, had plenty room to carry things , and it is wide. The vee design will make it a smooth ride in a chop are when passing another boat or barge. This boat has a beam of 8'6" and a bottom of 5'6". I have decided to add five feet to it and make a 30 footer. when I'm finished with it will sleep two and move at a 15 to 20mph clip. By adding that 5 ft. I can incorporate a small galley and a head. I ordered my plans on Thursday the 13Th and received them on Saturday the 15Th. Well we have started laying the frame patterns and after we do that we are going to build a temp shop so we can start this dream.

The Dream

nov.17,2008

After the tug pasted ,I kicked back looking up and gazing at the stares I started thinking and wondering where Jason was going. You know it's different when it's your job but when you can run up and down the rivers and come and go as you please it's a wonderful feeling out there. It's like riding a motorcycle your just out there in the breeze. Back to the dream now. I just though how cool it would been to run the rivers east of the Mississippi and there is a few of them. So as I though about it I new my eighteen bass boat would not do it and I do not have the money to buy a fifty to eighty thousand dollars on a cruiser, so I spent the next few weeks looking at the DIY boatsand did Ilearn something. There must be fifty to a hundernd boat plan companeys. After researching them for about I decideed on the twenty five ft. cabin Dory Skiff. Now that I have decideed on the dory skiff I had to decide which one suited me. Now after studying them I nerrowed it down to two. Now the one I decided on is the Glen-L Chunky Dory 25" 8" model. My next post I will explain why i choose that one.

How I got started with this project

Nov, 17/2008
Just looking at this picture is just peaceful. One fall eveing I went to the river to do a little cat fishing. I got out on the river about 6.00 pm unloaded the boat and preceided to go and find some bait. Found the bait and was set up to start fishing around 7:00ish. got my three reels set out and the clickers on and now its time to sit back and relax waiting on a clicker to go off. Laid back resting and looking up at the stars and it was so quite that night and all that could be heard was the owls hooten and the frogs chirpping. Now that is just laid back living. now about i heard a tug coming down the river but could not see it yet. I checked to make sure that I was in the clear and I was. Finally I can see it and it about a mile down the river. Now that it closer I turn on all my lights as it cot closer The capton gave me a quite blass , it was my friend Jason on the Tombigee pushing six barges. After he pasted I begain wondering where he was headed, theh the dreaming started. My next post will be the dream.
